Yuk Cho is a therapy unique to Tibetan Medicine. Part of the external therapies arm, it is a tapping treatment using a variety of sticks specially designed and with different purposes.
Combining a strong spiritual aspect with an equally powerful healing benefit, its origins are twofold, coming both from the lineage of the great Ngakpas or Yogis of Tibet, and most likely as a development from a basic form of pain relief through the use of the fist or elbow.
Today it is not practised in Tibet, due to many reasons; and it is through the teachings of Dr Nida Chenagtsang that this unique and amazing treatment is being revived. A small number of of his students in the west are practising it and Dr Nida always teaches and demonstrates to the doctors in Tibet when he is there.
Points specific to the organs of the body or the humors, or pain points, are repeatedly, and lightly tapped while the practitioner recites a specific mantra. The percussive vibration is an excellent pain reliever and is also a great way to open up or unblock the energy channels of the body.
Two of the sticks have small pouches containing either a mixture of herbs or mustard seeds, one is used more as a rolling implement and the other two have small wooden egg shaped attachments. They are all specifically selected for use during the treatment depending on what condition is being treated and the typology of the patient. Each point is tapped between 100 and 300 times.
Stress, muscular pain, energy blockages, excess of rLung (wind) energy, stagnation, rigidity or paralysis, and digestion issues are just some of the conditions which can benefit from a Yuk Cho treatment.
Yuk Cho can be incorporated into a Ku Nye massage or booked as a stand alone treatment.
