I read more than I write most weeks. And while I do not participate in the whole cross promotion, gee I am good, Top One Billion Blogs of all time type stuff, I am not averse to a little cross pollination. So I wanted to share a few of my favourites. Also these are so good that it would be mean and selfish not to share.

Naturally they are a reflection of my personal tastes and interests, so if these things aren't interesting to you, I will assume that it's you who are freakish and strange, not me.

I feel a bit like a stalker in regard to the wonderful Mr Gaiman. Not only is he an awesome writer of everything, he shares his talents for free all over the internet and yes I do follow him on Twitter and Facebook as well. One of my top ten men!

Ree Drummond is a total goddess. This blog started out with her tale of meeting her husband "Marlborough Man" and moving way out west with him. It is now larger than Texas and she now has books, photography classes, competitions, recipes that make you hungry just reading them, family, dogs, home schooling and life life life. It is a huge site and there is always something interesting, and some truly gorgeous photographs.

This is such a thought provoking blog. I don't always feel comfortable with what I read here, Dimitri Orlov pushes many buttons, and so do his guest contributors, but it grabs you and leaves you thinking. He combines personal events with some strong opnion pieces on what is happening in the world.

This woman is a fantastic "out and proud" birding geek. Her blog is amazing, informative, beautiful to look at. While the birds are those from the northern hemisphere, it's still an incredible site to visit. Anyone with passion who is out there sharing what they love is making the world so much better for the rest of us.

"City Of Bones", Cassandra Clare.

A few young friends have raved about this, it has been big, but not BIG like the Twilight books. I am enjoying it so far. I love young adult fiction, great writing and stories without all the filler.

For me, one of the most intersting takes on the Nephilim mythos is in
"Many Waters" by Madeline L' Engle.

You might have trouble tracking this one down but it's worth the detective work. How many books are there about Noah and his ark, not many!

 

taking your own photo is very entertaining

My new computer lets me take my own photo and I am finding it endlessly entertaining to sit and pull faces at myself and then play with the results.

It has confirmed what I have long suspected, I have no real idea of what I look like. I have been known to point to myself in a picture and ask who that person is.

I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing but with all this social media becoming part of daily life, you kind of need a few photos of yourself lying around handy. And not the ones where you have had a glass of wine too many, or no-one gave you enough time to suck in your tummy or whatever part of you needs to be less.

And it is the new bad to cut someone once special out of a shot and then keep using it.

I love the subtle bullying of some of these sites, the ones that have a little bar half filled, just like your inadequate profile, so you can measure your progress while you try and find a picture that won't make everyone sick.

And as for "lets find a cute and or amusing image and use that instead"; seriously unless you are going to really commit to Hello Kitty, suck it up princess and put your mug out there like the rest of us. Chances are if we are on the same social network, we already know you and what you look like, yes?

(Although full marks to the guy on Facebook who friended me and uses ever so slighty out of focus black and white nudes as his profile pic from time to time. Maybe he really does have a big dick, or maybe he just is one, lucky him.)

And before you rush off to scan my friend list on FB, I dropped him off the list a while ago, sorry.

This is a realtime blog catcher, they update as entries are posted, kind of instant (how does it work, no don't tell me, I still don't really understand how tv works). They, the blogs, whip past your very own nose from all over the place. All sorts of stories and all sorts of people telling them. It's a really cool idea and a very addictive site to spend time on. You have been warned!
