Do not follow this link if you are squeamish.
But if you are interested in this process the photos are very clear, and give an extremely comprehensive view of a sky burial in Tibet. I did not find them offensive but it is challenging to observe.
It is a unique ceremony; and while it has a practical element with very little soil to inter bodies in much of Tibet, there is also a rightness to the natural life and death cycle that is honoured by the process. Why shouldn't our bodies go back to the elements, benefiting countless other living beings at the same time. (The vultures have a pivotal role, yes I am still on about the vultures.)
It is good to challenge yourself and your understanding of things from time to time. We all think we own our bodies and that they are somehow important. Only while they function and serve us, after that is no longer the case, what are they really?
